Open Ietter to Iawyer Sammy Gyamfi on the Fight Against Galamsey

Dear Sammy Gyamfi!

What do you remember about this picture?

Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, on 16th February 2020, you held a press conference at the banks of the River Pra on the fight against galamsey in the Country.

This move or agenda of yours was purposely to paint the NPP government black and you accused the NPP of clear failure to tackle the menace of galamsey or illegal mining in Ghana.

You maligned, vilified, and used all forms of derogatory remarks on the Former President and his appointees on galamsey, especially its dire consequences on the survival of humans and the preservation of our water bodies.

In clear terms, all these were to drum home the agenda to capture power and not to act on the menace of illegal mining. As the National Communication Officer of the NDC, you and your Party used all manner of propaganda tools in the so-called fight against Galamsey.

You played the fast one on Ghanaians to believe in the NDC's fight against galamsey, and this was being intensified during an election year or in the heat of campaigns.

You and your colleagues used this matter and had the full courage to even organize a press Conference at the banks of River Pra. The NPP won but lost so many seats in the Galamsey area during the 2020 elections.

Before the 2024 elections, you and the NDC again campaigned vigorously on the same agenda, and some of the media personalities and so-called neutrals joined your campaign on the galamsey menace.

Luckily enough, Ghanaians bought into your vile, skewed propaganda, and your Party won overwhelmingly in both Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Unfortunately, after the NDC won power, this fight against galamsey or illegal mining has vanished into thin air, and it's not even discussed by the same agenda media personalities and so-called neutrals in the Country.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, have we won the fight against galamsey or illegal mining, or have you been sorted after your propaganda on the fight against the menace? Yes, you have been sorted by President Mahama.

In all sincerity, I expect you to show Ghanaians your zeal to fight the menace of galamsey even in power as CEO of Precious Minerals Marketing Company. You can't clandestinely abandon that fight because of power.

Let Ghanaians feel your Party's initiatives or policies to fight galamsey since one of your own is being accused of his involvement in illegal mining in Aowin Constituency, where the Chiefs even banish him for that wicked act.

I remind you to talk to President Mahama about your promise to fight the devastating effects of illegal mining in Ghana, which continues to persist with the alleged involvement of your own Party members in these areas where our water bodies are destroyed and polluted.

At this juncture, we shall continue to remind and hold you responsible for the fight against Galamsey. Ghanaians deserve the best, not propaganda, to win power and run into hiding without thinking about it.

Shalom!
