Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group Condemns The Ethnic Bigotry Campaign Displayed By Dr. Bryan Acheampong

The leadership of the Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group has strongly condemned the Ethnic bigotry campaign by one of the Presidential hopefuls, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.

In a video circulating, Dr Bryan Acheampong is heard playing an Ethnic bigotry campaign with the use of the unfortunate age-long Bawku conflict as an attempt to dent the hard-earned reputation and image of the Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He stated clearly that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should be rejected by Delegates as a result of the Party's inability to perform well in the Bawku enclave due to the conflict between the Mamprusi and the Kusasi.

As a group of vibrant Youth of the Party with members dotted across the length and breadth of the Northern Region, we have taken his comments as unguided and tend to derail the progress made by NPP in the five Northern Regions.

Indeed, Dr Bryan Acheampong's distasteful and unwarranted attacks on the revered Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are needless and stem from perceived hatred towards Northeners.

The NPP, as a National Party, abhors discriminatory political discussion and embraces all manner of people irrespective of one's Religious and Ethnic background.

Therefore, these avoidable Ethnic bigotry remarks came as a shock to us as youth of the Party who looked up to some of the stalwarts and bigwigs of the Party to be role models.

Undoubtedly, these highly condemnable remarks set a bad tone and will not only affect Dr Mahamudu Bawumia but the New Patriotic Party, NPP, as a whole in future elections.

In any case, what Dr Bryan Acheampong clearly stated is politically unwise, looking at the sensitive nature of the Bawku conflict, which has now spread into other Regions with killings and destruction of properties.

Fast forward, the constitution of the Party states clearly who becomes a member of the Party, and the use of someone's origin isn't a yardstick to determine whether he is best suited to lead the Party.

Instructively, the Party believes in the contest of ideas and policies and not someone's lineage to deny him the opportunity to lead the Party as Flagbearer going into the 2028.

Truth be told, the Party lost the 2024 elections on several factors which went beyond the Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and it's imperative for Dr. Bryan Acheampong to speak to hardcore facts and desist from dabbling in Ethnic and  Chieftaincy sentiments.

On records, our Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the history of the Fourth Republic, campaigned more than any of the Presidents in the Country, and this is based on the number of times he went around the country with a clear message for the Party.

So even if Dr Bryan Acheampong won't pay Dr Mahamudu Bawumia back, he shouldn't go on this dangerous path of being an Ethnic bigot to court the attention of the Delegates and Ghanaians.

Quite disgustingly, the NDC used the Bawku conflict before the 2024 elections as a major campaign tool for votes, but today the government is struggling to contain the escalation of the conflict, which has spread to other Regions of the Country.

Given the above, this should have been a lesson for Dr Bryan Acheampong to be well measured and tactful, not to use it against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been vindicated by the politics of deception played by the NDC.

In addition, the leadership of Northern NPP Concerned Youth and members across the Region have condemned in no uncertain terms the use of the Bawku conflict in our internal Presidential Primaries, which we deemed as a feeble approach to internal contest.

In fact, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's enviable leadership qualities and performance as running mate, Vice President, have really increased the Party's fortunes in the five Northern Regions, not just in the Bawku enclave.

The conflict in Bawku is diacey and we should be measured as patriots of the Party and Dr Bryan Acheampong's distasteful statement shouldn't be coming from him, who has been in the game for long.

In conclusion, we take Dr. Bryan Acheampong's Ethnic bigotry campaign as an insult to the intelligence of well-meaning Ghanaians and the rank and file of the Party. We demand an unqualified apology from him to serve as a deterrent to others who are engaged in it.

Long live NPP!
